{"id":1066,"date":"2023-05-29T05:14:38","date_gmt":"2023-05-29T05:14:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/en.fotoessa.gr\/?p=1066"},"modified":"2023-09-08T08:07:09","modified_gmt":"2023-09-08T08:07:09","slug":"gender-identity-violence-when-empowering-the-youth-given-erasmus-program","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/en.fotoessa.gr\/index.php\/2023\/05\/29\/gender-identity-violence-when-empowering-the-youth-given-erasmus-program\/","title":{"rendered":"\u201cGender Identity &#038; Violence when Empowering the Youth\u201d (GIVEN) Erasmus+ program"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1067\" src=\"https:\/\/en.fotoessa.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/IMG-20230522-WA0007-b.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1446\" height=\"664\" srcset=\"https:\/\/en.fotoessa.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/IMG-20230522-WA0007-b.jpg 1446w, https:\/\/en.fotoessa.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/IMG-20230522-WA0007-b-300x138.jpg 300w, https:\/\/en.fotoessa.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/IMG-20230522-WA0007-b-1024x470.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/en.fotoessa.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/IMG-20230522-WA0007-b-768x353.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1446px) 100vw, 1446px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">18-28 May 2023.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Fotoessa\u2019s co-founder, John Sourelis, and Intercultural trainer of trainers, Aspasia Protogerou, participated in the 10 days SCI Hellas\u2019 Erasmus+ training program:\u00a0 \u201cGender Identity &amp; Violence when Empowering the Youth\u201d (GIVEN) which was held in Thessaloniki from 18 to 28 May, 2023.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The specific program focused on informing, sensitizing and training youth workers and non-formal trainers and facilitators in order to acquire specialized knowledge and skills, and create educational and methodological tools which can be used as an integral part of their working methods, so as to address issues of gender, gender identity, and violence.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The program\u2019s objectives were to contribute to combating the increasing trend of violence, especially violence against women and domestic violence, to promote the acceptance of equal and active participation of all persons, regardless of gender, in all levels of social, economic, cultural and political public life and to strengthen the respect for diversity and gender identity.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">For this reason, educational materials and tools were created which will be used by youth workers and non-formal learning educators\/facilitators\/ trainers in the activities they organise with young people regardless of the topic. The inclusion of these tools in all non- formal learning activities as an integral part of the process will effectively help to change the approach of a larger part of society to the role of gender and the eradication of violence.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">During the 10 days\u2019 training, participants from Spain, France, Brussels, Italy, Jordan and Greece had the opportunity to work on the following topics:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Definition of violence, forms and types of violence, nonviolent communication, conflict management, conflict transformation<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Identity and gender, prejudices, gender stereotypes and media<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Gender roles in different cultures, experiences from participating countries<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Creating a safe environment for young people and cultivating empathy<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Youth \u2013 human rights and gender identity: support tools and best practices<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Production of a questionnaire on gender-based violence and fieldwork in the city of Thessaloniki<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Debriefing on research results and testimonies of abused women<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Creation of educational tools, online education, social media, platforms, etc.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Gender-based conflicts: taking social action, conflict resolution<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Creation of a targeted campaign against violence and women abuse<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Participants had also the opportunity to share best practices of other youth organizations, such as Action Aid Hellas Youth.
